The Zia Singers Artistic Director Job Description

The Zia Singers, a Santa Fe-based women’s community chorus, seeks an Artistic Director to lead this dynamic music organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Plan and create innovative concert programs and repertoire that challenge the singers and appeal to audiences.

• Lead rehearsals and performances, fostering the musical growth of the singers.

• Audition potential new members.

• Identify and engage soloists and instrumentalists as needed.

• Serve as a non-voting member of the Board Of Directors.

• Participate in fundraising and publicity as needed.

Details:

Salary:  $15,000

Start Date:  Summer 2024.

Rehearsal Schedule:  Weekly rehearsals from September to June (approximately 35-40 per year).

Concert Schedule:  Two main concerts per year (one winter, one spring), usually with two performances each.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in music or choral conducting preferred.

• Three or more years of directing choruses. Orchestral conducting experience preferred.

• In-depth knowledge of music and vocal technique.

• Ability to teach and lead singers in creating expressive and impactful performances, particularly in contemporary music. Comfortable working with a diverse group of women of all ages with varying degrees of musical knowledge, experience, and accomplishment.
